Sign Language Course - Free @ LDL

Sign language course begins October 1 at LDL

GRAND HAVEN, MI, Sept. 24, 2012 -- The public is invited to a month of Sign Language at the Loutit District Library beginning Monday, October 1. 

Sign language instructor, Stephanie Kazanas, will offer a free four-session Sign Language course each Monday night through October 22 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Library's Program Room A.

The October 1 program will focus on the basic signs, ABCs, numbers, and creating everyday basic sentences; October 8 centers on feelings, adjectives, and descriptive vocabulary to enhance ones sentence structure and sign language communication skills; October 15 spotlights on school signs, business signs, and directions; and October 22 concentrates on food signs, clothing, and shopping vocabulary.  

Each week students will have the opportunity to practice new signing skills and utilize new signing abilities. Although it is not necessary to go to each session, each session will build upon the next. 

Stephanie Kazanas has a BS in Education, AAS in Sign Language Interpretation, and is ASL Teacher Certified. Ms. Kazanas currently instructs American Sign Language at Grand Rapids Community College and Northview Public High School.

Fall 2012 Parent-Teacher Conferences

Fall 2012 Parent-Teacher Conferences will now be the week of October 22nd.

Wednesday, October 24th is a HALF-DAY, dismissal is at 11:47.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 25th, and Friday, October 26th.

Open House

School Supplies List and Wish List 2012

A teacher friend of mine brought this school supply secret to my attention! We shall take advantage of it!

k Please make sure you have the basic supplies (crayons, glue, scissors, pencils) at home for your student to complete upcoming homework assignments.



Here is the classroom supply list for the start of school:


*Backpack (big enough for a 9×12 folder, winter clothes and lunch box)
*Lunch box and water bottle (if your child will be bringing a lunch from home)
*Extra set of clothes/bathroom needs (pants, shirt, undies, socks, wipes, pull ups, etc.-labeled and in a Ziploc bag)
*Supplies for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): A washcloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush or comb
*Box of Kleenex
*Container of disinfecting wipes
*Snacks (individual snacks and/or bulk snacks)


 k Please remember to label everything with your child’s name.
